I’m so excited for this weekend! I’ll be watching the new Captain America film because I want to know why it’s called Civil War (no spoilers, please; rather, is the reason behind the title even included in the film?) I’ve never been this anxious for just watching a film, but trust me, this is really gold.
I’m here in Milan, Italy for the second time around. The last time I visited here, I looked for cinemas because I wanted to spend my free time eating popcorns and sleeping on the velvet seat. Just in luck, I was able to find one near my location. I stood in line and bought my ticket (they have reserved seats system so it’s awesome!) The curtains slid to the side and the lights dimmed; the movie began in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…
Oh my god, the actors were speaking Italian!
Oh. My. God.
I think I dropped my popcorn on the floor, but who cares? I was sitting on the front wherein the wild couples and moviegoers intently watched on the last rows of the cinema house. Thank God, they couldn’t see my jaw dropped!
My fault, yes! I didn’t look if it was in English, but the title was, so I assumed! I endured the movie for two hours with no worries; I loved the dubbing, anyway (even if I could only understand the basic words like ciao, buon giorno and the likes; sigh).
When I got home, I searched for English films in Italian cinemas and there were close to none. I had to stick watching TV Series on the internet for months.
Now that I’m back in Milan, Italy, it was one of the first things I searched and look what I found! An English film in an Italian cinema!
The UCI Cinemas near Bicocca offers O.V. or Original Version (I guess) films—meaning, international films in its original language. Even if the cinema only offers two English movies at a time, at least I can understand the film. It is packed with Italian subtitles so Italians who want to learn English can watch with ease. The movies will only be shown at one screening time every night—around 7pm (depending on the schedule set by the management).
I have to learn Italian language if I will keep coming back in Milan, Italy. I look forward to learning, but I don’t think this is the right time. For now, I must enjoy the English film with Italian subtitles. I hope the couches have velvet skin.
